PART 1: MAPPING AND CREATING THE FACE

the face was definitely one of the most technical (and tedious) aspects of the project. first, i printed the desired image to the size i wanted (three sheets of paper by three sheets of paper). then, using tracing paper, i traced the general  outline of the image, adding my own 'blobs' of shading and highlights, as well as other small details. after labelling these with their various shade, i used thick painting paper to create stencils of each section and then used the stencils to trace my fabric pieces. during this process, i used a double sided adhesive interface, which allowed me to temporarily bind pieces of fabric together without using pins. however, since this 'glue' was temporary, after creating the full image i had to go back through and sew everything down using the sewing machine.
