PART 4: PUTTING EVERYTHING TOGETHER

after creating the smaller final details, i added them onto the quilt face. for the mandarin character, i used the two sided adhesive interface for to bind the characters to the quilt. then, i hand-sewed the various buttons along the right corner edge of the quilt, and used the adhesive interface for the poppies on the top right corner. then, i used a string of pearls and hand-sewed the pearl chain onto the top of the quilt.

once i was done adding the details from my original sketch, i took a look at the quilt as a whole, and noticed gaps/areas where i wanted to add more to. because of this, i ended up creating another mandarin character, 鍾 (zhong), which translates into 'chung,' and is my grandmas current last name. after placing this right above the other character, i also decided to add a strand of pearls to the neck itself, as i thought it added dimension to the piece (and my grandma always wears a pearl necklace). after adding these additional details, the face of the quilt was complete. after creating the face of the quilt, i sewed together batting and a plain white background to make the back of the quilt. after doing this, i hand-stitched the two together to make my final product (forgot to take pics of these steps...oops!)
