INSPIRATION

the main inspiration for my piece was the works completed by luke haynes. i first came across his work through instagram (i think) and loved how he revived quilting, something i previously thought of to be 'for old people'. specifically, i was really drawn to the details and abstract shading in his pieces, and how i felt they really told a story about the moment he was capturing, and almost seemed like images upon first glance. in addition, a lot of my inspiration came from scouring through platforms like pinterest, and just seeing textile pieces that others had created. below are some of my favorite pieces from what i found, and definitely inspired by work throughout this project!

another major source of inspiration was my grandma herself. during this project, i spent numerous hours speaking with her over facetime and calls to get her tips and tricks and talk about her quilting experience. on the day i finished my project, i visited her house to show her the quilt (she didn't know what it looked like other than having her face on it), and (i hope/think) she loved it. that day, i was able to hang out with her in-person and go into her quilting room (for the first time in a year), where she helped me set it up and take photos of it. below are some of my inspiration/work process pics with pau pau!
